Hoop in the winter

Welcome to the Hoop 'N' Holler Tavern's official web site. We are a popular bar and restaurant located at the northwest corner of beautiful Lake Gogebic in the western end of Michigan's Upper Penninsula. We are officially the "farthest west tavern in the eastern time zone", as our little town of Merriweather is listed as the farthest west town in the eastern time zone in the Junior Trivial Persuit Game! Some more information about our tavern is listed below. Also, feel free to follow any of the links to the left. If you have any questions, suggestions, or comments, visit our contact information page.

Our Tavern - Winter

  • Voted #1 "Best Pit Stop" in SnowGoer Magazine for 2002 and 2003. Also, tied for second place for Best Over-All Restaurant according SnowGoer magazine for 2003!
  • Close proximity to multiple snowmobile trails + direct access to Lake Gogebic, plus we'll give you honest and accurate information on trail and snow conditions in our area.
  • Celebrate New Years Eve twice on beautiful Lake Gogebic with the eastern time zone at the north end and central time zone at the south end of the lake! You can ring in the new year starting at the north end and then ride down the lake and celebrate again in central time zone.
  • With an average snowfall of approximately 300 inches we're a snowmobilers dream, and even if the trails might get a little crowded you still have 14,000 sq. acres of lake to ride on (under safe conditions).
  • We're also within a half hour or so of 4 major ski hills and don't forget the great winter fishing! Probably the best time of year to try your luck at the really big walleyes.

Our Tavern - Summer

  • We've got one of the best areas for swimming that you'll find on the entire lake. A sandy beach that's kept clean and within easy view of the tavern makes our place a favorite stop for parents who'd like to get out of the sun for a cool drink and let their kids stay in the water.
  • Video games in the tavern give the kids (and adults) an extra bonus for a fun stop while enjoying lunch, dinner or just a quick snack from our full menu. A very "family friendly," come as you are kind of place.

We do accept both MasterCard and Visa.
